Whitmuir Farm Shop & Butchers

Celebrate Christmas with us, and order your Christmas dinner from our local Butchers shop here

“Haste ye back, you are always welcome here”

Located just 16 miles from Edinburgh in the beautiful Scottish Borders, and with breathtaking views of the Pentland Hills, Whitmuir Farm, Cafe and Farm Shop sit within over 130 acres of working farmland and beautiful woodland.

We are a family friendly, welcoming and relaxed place that everyone loves to visit. There’s lots to do here; you can enjoy a ramble along our Woodland Walk, then grab a tasty treat and coffee to go, or treat yourself to a sit down meal in the Cafe. Our fantastic Farm Shop is the perfect place to pick up fresh local meat, cheese, bread, fruit, veg, and delicious snacks. We hold classes, workshops and events for all ages, and you can hire out the Hive or the Nest for your special events.

We welcome dogs on leads around the estate (as we are a working farm) and we have a heated outdoor seating area adjacent to the cafe, as well as a secure bike rack. Picnic tables surround our old farm tractor that children can play on and let their imagination run wild.

And if all of that isn’t enough, Quercus Garden Plants have everything you could need for your Scottish garden – and we don’t just mean the plants, their advice is second to none.

Lovingly described by our farmer as a “bog on a hill in a frost pocket”, Whitmuir Farm faces many of the challenges that all Scottish farms face; waterlogged soil, hilly terrain, and, yes, you guessed it, the cold.

We’re a regenerative farm, focusing on soil health, caring for our unique site, and increasing biodiversity. The benefits of regenerative agriculture are endless, and include carbon capture, greater food security, flood and drought management, better animals welfare and healthier foods.

To find out more about regenerative farming at Whitmuir Farm, book a farm tour and see behind the scenes.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Whitmuir Cafe, Shop and Farm

Here are some guiding principles about Whitmuir:

Welcoming and flexible:

We want everyone to feel welcome, when they come to visit us. Our café menu is flexible, you can ask for a smaller (or larger!) portion, the childrens menu has been developed to ensure families can enjoy a relaxed visit. All you have to do is ask, and if we can do it, we will.

We want to be involved in our local community, whatever that may be. We want local clubs and societies to use our space and to bring people together.

We stock and serve local, where we can, in our café and shop. Any seasonal produce produced on the farm will be available in the shop. We also want to support local artists and creatives by stocking their work in our shop.

We strive to minimise waste and operate sustainably – building on the existing eco friendly café building, which is insulated with sheep wool and powered by renewable energy.
